ROUND 11 SEABL MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Garrett Jackson – North West Tasmania Thunder

Garrett Jackson makes it two in two weeks, improving on his Round 10 Player of the Week efforts with 37 points and 12 rebounds against Canberra on Saturday night.

It was only the fourth SEABL game for the Thunder import, but he’s already stamped his authority on the competition averaging 25.3 points and 11 rebounds.

Shooting the ball at 62 per cent, it was a hot start for Jackson scoring 16 points in the opening quarter before closing the game in style with 13 last quarter points.

Jackson has helped push the Thunder to an 8-6 record, firmly lodged inside the top four of the South Conference.

Special Mentions

– Canberra Gunners’ centre Ben Allen found form with 23 points, 12 rebounds against Hobart and then 31 points, 15 rebounds and six assists against North-West Tasmania.

– Frankston star Eric Williams scored 26 points and had 10 rebounds, two blocks and three steals in the Blues’ win over Sandringham

– Hobart Chargers star Tom Wright led the way in the Chargers’ win over Canberra with 28 points, six rebounds and three assists.

– Albury-Wodonga microwave Deba George heated up in the Bandits’ away win over Kilsyth with 30 points, and backed it up against Dandenong on Sunday with 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a close loss.
ROUND 11 SEABL WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kelly Bowen – Frankston Lady Blues

Kelly Bowen has had a huge season for the Frankston Lady Blues, and in Round 11 she led the way resulting in being named the Round 11 SEABL Women’s Player of the Week.

Although she’s come close on many occasions in 2015, it’s Bowen’s first Player of the Week recognition this season despite averaging 23.6 points and 10.2 rebounds; top five in the league in each category.

Bowen stuffed the stat-sheet on Saturday night against Sandringham, finishing with 32 points at 66 per cent shooting, nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals in what can only be described as a dominant display.

With last year’s MVP Maddie Garrick absent for majority of the season so far and Nicole Romeo moving to Nunawading, Bowen has stepped up as Frankston’s go-to player in 2015, as she attempts to lead the Lady Blues back to the finals.

Special Mentions

– BA Centre of Excellence star Elyse Penaluna scored 20 points against Canberra, as well as grabbing 10 rebounds and getting four steals. She backed it up in the second game, finishing with 22 points, seven rebounds and five blocks against Bendigo on Sunday.

– Kilsyth’s Chantella Perera went off against Albury-Wodonga with 30 points and six steals in 35 minutes.

– Launceston import Mikaela Ruef poured in the points against Dandenong with 32 points, 15 rebounds and six steals in the Tornadoes win over the Rangers.

– Bendigo point guard Kelly Wilson just missed a triple-double against Canberra Capitals Academy with 21 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists – she also had three steals and backed up her good form with 22 points in the Braves’ loss to BA Centre of Excellence on Sunday.
