Australia’s first Opal captain passes away aged 87.
Lorraine was a pioneer of Australian basketball captaining the first Australian Opals team which competed at the 1957 FIBA World Championship in Brazil.
She holds the honour of becoming the first ever Australian woman to be offered a USA college scholarship paving the way for hundreds of girls to follow in her footsteps.
A sporting superstar in South Australia she went onto help create the national championship between the states, now known as the WNBL.
Lorraine was inducted into the Basketball Australia Hall of Fame in 2007.
Basketball Australia extends its condolences to Lorraine’s family.
